DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Learning and Development Unit is responsible for effective and efficient employee learning and development activities (e.g., instructor-led courses, e-learning, web-based tools and resources, cohort programs, certificate series, compliance training, career coaching and counseling) at UC Davis.
JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the Manager for the Learning & Developments unit on the UC Davis campus and is involved in all aspects of program development, management and oversight. This position spends the majority of time achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. The Manager’s role includes the following: establishes departmental goals and objectives; influences leadership on strategic learning and development initiatives, manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and physical resources; manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. This position works collaboratively with other Human Resources managers and UC Davis human resources professionals, and keeps Human Resources leadership apprised of overall employee learning and development projects, program evaluation and metrics, employee performance, and any and all matters pertaining to learning and development for approximately 33,000 employees at UC Davis.

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) directs, supervises work of the DMV U team and acts as the project manager for the Department's Learning Management System (LMS) called DMV University (DMV U).
