    Job description

    Under the direction of the Director of Training & Development, the Training Manager for Skills Development is responsible for the creation and/or coordination, and implementation of training and development programs which align with and support Operation's Mission, specifically in the area of interpreter skill development. This job requires knowledge of Interpreter Training, curriculum development, effective teaching approaches, and communication and training skills to communicate clearly with a variety of audiences. This job also requires knowledge of business processes and procedures, and the skill to write and present ideas clearly to a variety of audiences.

     

    Areas Of Responsibility

     

    • Provide and/or oversee training and professional development opportunities for the interpreting workforce, specifically in the area of interpreting skills development, ensuring content is appropriate and effectively communicated.
    • Design appropriate, high-quality curriculum and materials, including classroom, online, self-study, or virtual, with consideration to Adult Learning principles and best practices in training.
    • . Support the Interpreter Skills Assessment program, working in collaboration with other members of the Training and Development team.
    • . Prepare the interpreting team for the implementation of the VRS Skills Based Routing Pilot and, if needed, Program.
    • . Develop contract opportunities for skills-based and content training from educators outside of company employ.
    • . Develop and lead mentoring and/or tutoring programs for the interpreting workforce.
    • . Serve as Purple's RID Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Custodian.
    • . Collaborate with colleagues in Training & Development, Professional Services, Center Management, Recruiting, and Workforce Management.
    • . Identify opportunities for process improvements and the creation of best practices.
    • . Research, create and disseminate effective independent study learning opportunities.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    • Experience in video relay and community interpreting Services, operations or training, demonstrating subject matter expertise regarding the interpreter role. Experience as a video interpreter preferred, or strong familiarity with the job.
    • Experience in interpreter pedagogy to include instruction, assessment or diagnostics.
    • Expertise in adult learning theory and learning styles.
    • Skill to use a variety of multimedia for training delivery.
    • Time management skills to handle multiple, competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English; ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, customers, managers, and others.
    • Knowledge of specialized software related to departmental operations including intranet development, database, the Internet , spreadsheet, Adobe presenter, PowerPoint, and word processing programs.

This work includes nationally recognized teacher professional development programs, the Institute for Inquiry and the Teacher Institute, designed to promote inquiry-rich experiences in K-12 science classrooms.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Strategic Leadership

    Guide and contribute to the development, articulation and implementation of the overall vision and strategy for the Exploratorium’s work with formal and informal educational systems

    Guide the strategic development and articulation of the Exploratorium’s new statewide professional development initiative, serving K-12 science educators across the state of California

    Provide direction and supervision for the Exploratorium Teacher Institute staff serving middle and high school science teachers, teacher leaders and professional learning providers

    Communication & External Relations

    Represent the work of the Exploratorium at the local, national and international levels with school districts, county offices of education, government officials, funders and community partners

    Finance and Development

    Work with the Exploratorium’s Institutional Advancement department to write proposals, facilitate proposal development and fundraising efforts for projects and programs

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    PhD in a related field and 10 years of leadership experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience, required

    Experience with professional development and teaching practices in STEM, or related research experience, is required

    Proven ability to manage senior staff and provide them with clear vision and guidance

    Knowledgeable about current trends and landscape in education (including informal education)

    Successful track record in fundraising, including developing and securing project awards and grants, with budgets over $1M per year

    Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written; excellent public speaking skills

    Demonstrated ability to think and plan at a broad-based strategy level, problem-solve and work collaboratively within a team

    Experience working with staff at all levels in a complex, collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values, relationships and communication

    Position Summary

    The Regional Training Manager (RTM) supports mission, vision, values and business objectives of the Access Dental Services organization through the development and delivery of training programs to our dental centers’ teammates.   The primary focus of the Regional Training Manager is to partner with the Regional Human Resources Business Partner (R-HRBP) and the Regional Operations Leadership to ensure we deliver the appropriate training to develop, deliver and drive high engagement of our dental centers’ teammates; corporate teammates and teammates of the supported clinical professional corporation.  The RTM is responsible for designing, delivering and measuring the effectiveness of training programs.  This role partners with others to facilitate large, multi-day off site meetings and trainings for an assigned region.

    Requirements

    Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies

    • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to perform needs analysis, develop learning objectives and design deliverables that meet the business needs
    • Create and organize training sessions, and deliver instructor-led classroom; virtual and e-learning training programs as needed to achieve business outcomes and effective transfer of learning in the workplace
    • Work with outside vendors, providers and organizations to deliver training
    • Develop and implement training programs and materials to ensure business requirements are met for effective operation programs such as customer service skills, systems, back office, and healthcare laws and regulations
    • Leads the design, development, and management of training sessions and schedules based on the evaluation of the needs of staff and new hires in coordination with management
    • Provide confidential coaching/facilitation and works closely with all levels of staff to ensure the integrity of the program and provides highly skilled feedback on staff performance in scheduled training and informal skills based coaching
    • Ability to train field based teammates so they can train others in the centers—train the trainer
    • Responsible for educating staff on all tools necessary for training

    Preferred Experience

    • 5 years of related experience in development and delivery of training programs.  Experience in a dental/healthcare or retail environment is a plus. Experience in leading change management is a plus.

    • Facilitation, presentation, and coaching experience
