Has the constant stimulus from work, the media and your personal communication devices got you looking for some kind of relief? Maybe you have considered doing what John Lennon suggested? “Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream…” Too impractical? OK, then how about attending our October program, “Mindfulness: The Cutting Edge of Workforce Engagement?” Don’t be left behind!  Join us on Tuesday, October 22nd with two well-known local trainers and authors for a mind-expanding evening.

Join our presenters, Dianna Wright Ph.D. and Dee Hansford, CRP, as they lead us through material from Dianna’s new book “The C.O.R.E. Journey: Unleash Your Power to Thrive.” You will be in the company of others like you - the most forward-thinking and interesting training professionals in Sacramento - who will be privileged to learn the latest on Mindfulness and how to thrive in a chaotic world.

The Sacramento Chapter of ASTD is dedicated to keeping its members on the cutting edge of training and development. Once again, we push the envelope to show you an amazing new trend in the workplace.  This month, modern evidence-based cognitive and behavioral science meets workforce needs, via an age old means of learning to control one’s attention. Intrigued yet?

What is it?

Mindfulness is being called the next workforce competency by many in today’s forward thinking businesses and public agencies.  Really?  Mindfulness?  You mean day-long meditation, navel gazing, and other techniques for unplugging from the mainstream?  Well actually, no!

Mindfulness, often simply described as learning to control the focus of one’s attention, is increasingly seen as an antidote to distraction, stress, and the seemingly constant pressure to multi-task.

Why consider it?

Mindfulness is being embraced in order to increase mental focus, assist with self-management, improve engagement, expand creativity, boost productivity, and give employees another needed tool to develop a healthier work-life balance.

Who is doing this?

Well there is that small Silicon Valley firm, Google, where the most popular employee course over the past two years is a course called, “Search Inside Yourself”, a course combining the elements of mindfulness and emotional intelligence.  In addition to Google, the US Army, Monsanto, General Mills, and many other corporations and institutions are using mindfulness to great effect.
