It's All About Retrieval
with Katrina Kennedy
Now offered as a webinar!

March 30, 2020

M - 12:30 PM

Is your training sticking with your learners? Are they able to recall things you've covered when they are back on the job? In this session we'll explore retrieval practice -- what it is, how to use it, when to use it, and why every learner needs more of it!

Do you remember your childhood phone number? Do you often forget where you put your keys? If you can remember your phone number, but not where you left your keys, you've experienced the impact of retrieval practice. Childhood phone numbers (before cell phones) required you to dial your number every time you needed to call home. You practiced. We often leave our keys in different places, creating no opportunity for long term memory. Without retrieval practice, there is no long-term memory created.

In this interactive webinar you’ll learn how to:

  • Identify six retrieval practice methods.
  • Develop a retrieval practice method for use in training.
  • Explore retrieval practice as a strategy for workplace learning.

Retrieval is one of several cognitive strategies to help learners process and retain information for long term memory. When we move information to long-term memory we are more likely to recall our learning, increasing our likelihood of applying our new learning on the job.

Retrieval practice goes beyond simple review exercises to activities that encourage learners to process what they've been presented through discussion, writing, synthesis, low stakes testing, comparison, and other creative activities.

Webinar will offer opportunity for networking, with breakout room discussions, chat function, and more!
