We know that listening to long winded lectures accompanied by 150 PowerPoint slides isn’t effective, but what does work? What really helps us learn? How can we determine if our learning methods work for our learners? Drawing from current findings in neuroscience and cognitive psychology, we will explore evidenced based methods to help our learners do the most important thing – learn and apply their learning on the job.

Learners will have their hands and brains around the content from the moment they enter the room using evidenced based methods. We will reflect, discuss, generate ideas, challenge assumptions, and engage in retrieval practice. We will take part in a hands on myth or fact card sort activity and become subject matter experts learning and sharing a learning principle with other participants. You won't be bored.

Key Takeaway's

  1. Identify 24 evidence-based learning principles to engage a variety of learners in a variety of settings
  2. Determine which methods work for the content you want your learners to apply to the job.
  3. Use strategies to increase learning including retrieval practice, distributed practice, and interleaved practice.
  4. Justify class duration, size, content, and pacing with evidenced based information.
